The photographer is looking aft along the starboard side showing a local pilot boat secured out of the water alongside. The number 17 is painted on both sides of the bow of the pilot boat. The boat is held in place by ropes attached to a crane and the side of the tug. 6 orange metal barrels are lashed inside the starboard bulwark of the tug. The west bank of the Suez Canal is in the background. A white light tower is set in the water, just off the bank of the canal in the background.
