Match box lid

A relic of Sir John Franklin's last expedition 1845-8. A match box lid obtained from the Inuit by the Hall Search Expedition 1864-9. The name of the maker 'J. HYNAM FINSBURY LONDON' stamped on the lid. Hynams was at 7 Princes Square, Wilson Street, Finsbury between 1841-1876. They were one of the first matchmakers to sell matches in their own metal boxes marked with the maker's name.
