The western end of the north bay in No. 1 Smithery in Chatham Dockyard. Against the end wall is a small hearth, cooling trough, crane and work bench installed about 1860. A sheet of corrugated iron is propped up above it and more are set up behind it. The windows are boarded up internally. The photographer is looking north-north-west. The white painted WC block is in the background.
