Four small hearths with cooling troughs against the north-west wall of No. 1 Smithery in Chatham Dockyard. The photographer is looking north. The hearth on the left has a large workbench next to it and the hearth near the corner has a vice set up at the end of it. The three hearths against the west wall are protected by corrugated iron sheets. The hearth against the north wall has a flue hood mounted on the wall above it and also has a workbench next to it. The windows have been boarded up internally.
