Looking south-east-by-east inside the north bay of No. 1 Smithery in Chatham Dockyard. A small circular smelter is in the left foreground with a yellow-painted electric hoist beyond it. Rivetted steel units are on the ground amongst discarded pieces of steel. Corrugated iron double doors are in the east elevation and the ground floor windows have been boarded up internally.
