Inside the centre bay of No. 1 Smithery in Chatham Dockyard. The photographer is looking east from near the double doors showing the base of the furnace chimney in the 5 ton hammer shop. It is by the wall separating the centre and north bays. Corrugated iron sheets and other metal objects are scattered about the floor. All of the ground floor windows have been boarded up internally.
