A smith standing by the John Bull wire coiling machine in the spring making workshop in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. He is using a special key to fit a length of thin steel to the working mechanism of the coiling machine, in preparation of making a new spring. Transparencies numbers PCT3296 and PCT3298 to PCT3303 were taken on the same occasion.
