A smith making a new spring using the John Bull coiling machine in the spring making workshop in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. He is using a steel bar to lever the end of the spring out of the starting hole in the drum of the coiling machine. Transparencies numbers PCT3296 and PCT3298 to PCT3303 were taken on the same occasion.
