A smith working at his bench in the spring making workshop in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. He is holding a long handled tool that is clamped in the vice and he is using a hammer to knock a marlin spike into a hole in the base of the tool. An electric pedestal drill, a tin of electrodes and a range of tools are on the bench. Various springs are on the bench in the foreground. Transparencies numbers PCT3306 to PCT3308 was taken on the same occasion.
