A smith and two hammermen forging a stanchion in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. The smith, wearing green overalls, is holding the red hot billet on the base of the B & S Massey steam hammer while one of the hammermen, wearing white overalls, is holding a moulding iron on top of the billet. This transparency is slightly under-exposed. Transparencies numbers PCT3324 to PCT3330 were taken during the same operation.
