Filming a smith making a new spring at his bench in the spring making workshop in Number 5 Machine Shop in Chatham Dockyard. The photographer is standing behind the sound man and the cameraman, Pieter van der Merwe, is on the right using a JVC KV-2000 video camera. The smith is using a hacksaw to cut the end off the completed spring which is being held in a vice. An electric pedestal drill, a tin of electrodes and a range of tools are on the bench.
