The photograph is on the Royal Society website, 'Science in the Making', and listed as being taken on 9 January 1902, but a lantern slide manufactured by W. F. Stanley from the Dundee Heritage Trust is dated as 1901. A lantern slide of the same photograph is within Charles Reginald Ford's own collection of slides at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
The tape on the bottom edge has 'Fo 35' in black ink on it.
