A view of the suction head, taken from the superstructure on board the suction hopper dredger Geopotes X (1969) in the Firth of Forth, Scotland. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the superstructure looking down and to starboard. A crewman is in the background on the left hand side of the image. The suction head and the hopper are fastened to davits hanging off the starboard side. The word "G10" is painted in white on the suction head, indicating the name of the ship that this head belongs to. The words "GEOX" are painted in white on the discharge pipe aft of the suction head. A bollard fasted to the deck is in the foreground. This is Slide 8 of a lecture titled "World Wide Ship Delivery" given by Captain Henry P. Bird detailing his service as Chief Officer for the suction hopper dredger Geopotes X (1969), owned by Volker Dredging Co Ltd, from 24 June 1980 to 14 July 1980.
