A group of six fishing people with three children
In this study, in the centre foreground, a man and a woman are kneeling by a fish basket; a dog sitting beyond. Three men are standing, a woman with a fish basket on her head, two boys and a girl. All figures are involved in animated conversation.
The unsigned drawing has been tentatively attributed to Willem van de Velde, the Elder, and dated to 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground.
