A man seated on a basket with offset on right
A study of a hooded man in heavy boots sitting on a fishing basket. An offset has been taken from the drawing on the right by folding the paper and rubbing on the back. This was probably done by the artist as the drawing appears to have been mounted in the eighteenth century.
The unsigned drawing has been tentatively attributed to Willem van de Velde, the Elder and dated to 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground.
