A gentleman standing by a fishermen

This is a side view of a fisherman supporting a large empty fishing basket with his left hand. Close behind him stands a bearded gentleman in a hat wearing a wide-sleeved coat and breeches.

The drawing is inscribed Willem six times on the back.

The unsigned drawing has been tentatively attributed to Willem van de Velde, the Elder and dated to 1655, when the artist was particularly busy with grisailles, in which he introduced groups of people in the foreground.
