Three women conversing
The study shows three women, the one in the left foreground carrying a basket, the two others behind her to the right in conversation.
According to an inscription on the back of the unsigned drawing, this study was attributed to the artist Vinkerboon during the 19th century. It was subsequently and unconvincingly attributed to Willem van de Velde, the Elder and dated to the 1650s. This was due not to the style but the subject matter, as van de Velde made similar figure studies for his grisailles at the time. The drawing is inscribed 'REL'.
