A Dutch bezan yacht with the wind on the quarter

A study of two bezan-rigged yachts. On the right is a bow view of a yacht flying a pendant with the wind on the port quarter, on the left of the page is a similar vessel sailing before the wind.

This drawing belongs to a small group of compositional drawings that combine pencil drawing with a loose, light wash. It is inscribed in the lower left: ‘W.V.V J’.
