The 'Cleveland' yacht beating to windward?
A broadside view of a yacht, possibly the royal yacht Cleveland, sailing close to the wind on a starboard tack. To the left is a small fishing vessel sailing before the wind.
Some or all of the wash on this drawing may have been added by a later hand. Alternatively, the whole sheet could be a later copy (Robinson cites the unusual angle of the ensign staff as evidence that this may be a later drawing). The composition relates to two other drawings at the NMM (PAF6879 and PAF6589), and to an oil painting of the Cleveland yacht (ZBA2146) by Van de Velde, the Younger. See also a related drawing at the British Museum (SL,5214.64).
