The inscriptions identifying the artist could be later additions, but are probably accurate in attributing this compositional drawing to Willem van de Velde, the Younger. To the left is a port broadside view of a kaag, behind which is a larger ketch and, on the far right, a small rowing boat heading towards the shore. A flute in the right distance balances the composition.

The drawing is inscribed in the lower left: ‘Vandervelde’; and in the lower right: ‘W.W.V J’.
