The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the forecastle looking aft. A mooring hole is behind the carpenter in the middle ground. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the motor bulk carrier Wilkawa (1964) owned by Sir William Reardon Smith & Sons Ltd of Cardiff, from 17 May 1970 to 26 November 1970.
