The name of the quartermaster (according to the photographer's autobiography) is Pandit and is from Kerala, India. Pandit. Pandit is maintaining a pilot's ladder (also known as a Jacob's Ladder). This is Slide 38 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the motor bulk carrier Wilkawa (1964) owned by Sir William Reardon Smith & Sons Ltd of Cardiff, from 17 May 1970 to 26 November 1970. This series consists of 83 slides.
