A view of a deck section (also known as pontoon hatch cover) ready to be lowered into in the hold of the bulk carrier Wilkawa (1964). The photographer is standing on the port side of the upper deck, looking to starboard. The two apprentices Llewelyn and Jerrum are standing on the winch house looking towards the boom which is lifting the deck section. A pontoon rack, full of deck sections is in the middle ground. The far side of a bank covered with trees is in the background. This is Slide 45 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the motor bulk carrier Wilkawa (1964) owned by Sir William Reardon Smith & Sons Ltd of Cardiff, from 17 May 1970 to 26 November 1970. This series consists of 83 slides.
