An informal photograph of the third officer and a Indian apprentice on the bridge of the bulk carrier London Explorer [ex Overseas Explorer] (1959) while underway at full speed ahead. The photographer is standing on the port side of the bridge looking to starboard and slightly aft. According to the autobiographer's notes. the third officer's name is 'Andy' whilst the apprentice is named 'Alf'. Both men are looking at the photographer. Alf is standing with his hand on the engine room telegraph which is set to full speed ahead. The third officer is seated just aft of the telegraph. Three wooden closets and small consoles are fastened to the wall in the background. This is Slide 4 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the bulk carrier London Explorer [ex Overseas Explorer] (1959), owned by London & Overseas Freighters Ltd. from 11 July 1972 to 16 October 1972. The series consists of 39 slides.
