A Chinese labourer resting underneath an umbrella on board the bulk carrier London Explorer [ex Overseas Explorer] (1959) berthed at Sembawang, Singapore. The photographer is standing on the port side of the forecastle looking aft and slightly to port. The Chinese labourer is sitting on the forecastle deck rail in the foreground looking at the photographer. The aft derrick is currently lowering a pile of timber in the middle ground. The midship superstructure is in the middle ground. A small building, timber piles, large tree and a partial view of the timber wharf, are in the middle ground on the right hand side of the image. The Johore Strait and coastline of Malaysia are in the background. This is Slide 14 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Second Officer on board the bulk carrier London Explorer [ex Overseas Explorer] (1959), owned by London & Overseas Freighters Ltd. from 11 July 1972 to 16 October 1972. The series consists of 39 slides.
