A ship driving ashore in a gale

This rapid though relatively detailed compositional storm scene is unusual for its vertical (portrait) format. On the left is the fore part of a ship, viewed from before the starboard beam, apparently running into rocks in the right foreground. Another vessel, in the right middle distance, appears to be in a similarly perilous state as it attempts to claw off the land.
