A view looking aft from the bridge of the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) at sea. The photographer is standing on the port side of the bridge looking aft and slightly to starboard. There are three lifeboats fastened in their davits and covered with green tarpaulins on the port side of the deck. There is a one similarly covered lifeboat on the starboard side. The aft deckhouse is on the centre line just in front of the funnel in the middle ground. The main mast is on the centre line aft of the funnel. A large red and white lifebelt is in the foreground at the bottom of the image. A smaller red and white life preserver is in the background aft of the funnel. This is Slide 6 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by the Commercial Cable Company of London from 22 January 1973 to 26 April 1973. The series consists of 62 slides.
