A view of the wheelhouse of the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) at sea. The photographer is standing on the starboard side of the wheelhouse looking across to the port side. The ship's wheel is to the rear of the wheelhouse on the left hand side of the image. A small tube is fastened to the deck head just in front of the wheel. The radar set on the starboard side is in the foreground. A second radar set is in front of the wheel. Numerous electrical equipment boxes are on the far wall behind the wheel. This is Slide 8 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer on board the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by the Commercial Cable Company of London from 22 January 1973 to 26 April 1973. The series consists of 62 slides.
