A view looking aft of the sand suction dredger Sand Swan (1971) loading sand at sea. The photographer is standing on the port side of the forecastle looking aft and slightly to starboard. A hose is pouring water onto the deck in the foreground. The hold is in the middle ground is currently being loading with sand from a conveyor belt. A second conveyor belt is expelling sand into the sea off the port side. This is Slide 7 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as supernumerary Second Officer on board the sand suction dredger Sand Swan (1970) and eventually Chief Officer on the sand suction dredger Sand Skua (1971) owned by the South Coast Shipping Co. Ltd. from 6 May 1973 to 27 June 1973.
