A view of Cowes looking westward taken on board a Red Funnel Line ferry at East Cowes, Isle of Wight. The photographer is standing on the upper deck on the port side looking aft. Passengers are queuing on the quayside to board the same ferry the photographer is on. A number of small crafts are moored on pontoons on both sides of the River. A banner reading "Dunhill welcomes you to Cowes Week & Admrial's Cup 1973" is hanging from a building on the opposite side of the river. The Groves & Guttridge boatyard is in the middle ground across the River Medina. The village of Cowes extends from the middle grounf to the background. This is Slide 15 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as summer relief Chief Officer on board various ferries operated by Red Funnel (also known as Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited) from 27th July 1973 until late August 1973. This series consists of 25 slides.
