According to the photographic mount the crewman on the left is named 'Ernie' whilst the crewman on the right is named 'Bill'. Ernie is standing on the left side of the image holding the cable to his left hip. Bill is standing opposite Ernie on the right also holding the cable. This is Slide 18 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer for the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by Commercial Cable Company of London from 16 December 1974 to 21 March 1975. This series consists of 45 slides.
