The photographer is standing on the starboard side looking aft. Hebe is moored alongside John W. Mackay loading the shore end of the cable. Hebe's name and port of Registry (port Moresby) are painted on the stern. A partial view of a covered lifeboat in its davits on board John W. Mackay is on the right hand side of the imaghe in the middle ground. Mountains are in the far background. This is Slide 40 of a series of slides detailing Captain H. Bird's service as Watchkeeping Officer for the cable ship John W. Mackay (1922) owned by Commercial Cable Company of London from 26 November 1975 to 24 April 1976. This series consists of 33 surviving slides.
