Salvaging the wreck of the Royal Navy protected cruiser Gladiator (1896) off Sconce Point, Norton, Isle of Wight.

A general view of the scene of the wreck of the Royal Navy protected cruiser Gladiator (1896) off Sconce Point, Norton, Isle of Wight. The photographer is probably on Fort Victoria Pier. The Gladiator (1896) has sheerlegs fitted to her hull and camels on the port side. The time is 19.00 and she has been hauled up to within about 10 degrees of upright by the salvage vessels Ranger (1880) and Enterprise (1903), both of which are out of the picture. The Royal Navy flat-iron gunboats Arrow (1871), Snap (1872), Mastiff (1871) and Bonetta (1871) have been fitted with pumping equipment and are close to the wreck's upperworks pumping her out. A copy negative of a photographic print.
