A close view of the port side of the bow, seen from abaft the beam,of the spritsail barge Plover (1898) berthed at the Point Barge Yard, Rochester, Kent, during a refit. Her bowsprit, mast and rigging have been unshipped. Shipwrights are fixing a new upper strake oak plank. The foreman shipwright, Mr. H Brown, is on the left fitting the plank against the rabbet at the stem while four other men are taking the weight. The plank has been kiln steamed and is flexible.
