Leigh-on-Sea old centre-board boat BN20
The bawley regd. BN20 is see from above the starboard side amidships looking towards the stern, with various dinghies and small yachts moored nearby along Leigh-on-Sea's harbour wall. The bawley's boom, furled mainsail laced to it, hangs by the main halyard to starboard of the structure housing the companionway. The jaws of the boom and gaff are hoisted higher on the mast than they would be if the boat were under sail, to facilitate access to the hold and deck space amidships. Nets and net ropes are draped over the gunwale.
