Leigh-on-Sea

A bawley is viewed from the port side, moored, with bowsprit extended outboard and boom lowered with the mainsail laced to it. Two halyards divided near the boom with blocks are shown. The bulwark plank leaves the traditional gap above the deck to allow water on deck to drain overboard. In the foreground seen from the starboard stern quarter are two rowing boats and between them a quarter-decked sailing boat of ca. 18ft. The stern of another bawley is shown moored to the left of the photograph's main subject.
