Deal galleys Our Boys and Undaunted

Two Deal galleys are shown side by side from the starboard stern quarter, on chocks on hard standing above Deal's shingle beach. On the keel below the transom of each boat is fastened the wire or chain to which winch chains are attached when the boats are pulled stern-first up the steep shingle shore. The galleys' clinker planking and caulking are clearly delineated. H.O. Hill's notebook names the two galleys respectively as "Our Boys" and "Dauntless", but the names are not visible in the photograph, and have been crossed off the envelope in which the negative is stored. Sails hang over the starboard gunwale of the nearest galley.
