Deal galleys Our Boys and Undaunted
The Deal galley on chocks on hard standing shown in this image is seen from the starboard side, its bow facing the sea. The boat appears to have four rowlocks on its starboard gunwale, though galleys were typically rowed by six men. Behind this galley are seen four smaller open clinker-built galley punts, and beyond them, nets drying and further, shorter and beamier local luggers, one with its mizzen mast stepped. Behind and beyond the galley in the foreground at the roadside is Layton's Garage, the premises of a car hire business.
