The Folkestone lugger Happy Return (reg. FE5) is viewed from ca. 50ft from its bow, on legs on the sand of Folkestone harbour at low tide. A man is with a broom at its starboard bow is scrubbing the hull below the waterline. Main and mizzen masts are rigged. Over the gunwale on the port bow rests the peak end of the foresail's spar. To the left at a greater distance is seen the Folkestone lugger Joan of Arc (FE15), also aground on legs.
