Folkestone aux. luggers

The Folkestone lugger Dorothy Margaret (regd FE21) is seen from above the starboard bow quarter, and from a distance of ca. 200ft. The boat is aground on legs at low tide in Folkestone harbour, before a timber jetty with a timber gridiron for drying larger vessels at its base. The lugger's mizzen is brailed to the mizzenmast, and nets are hoisted on the mizzenmast to dry. A man stands on a ladder at the bow of the Dorothy Margaret, partly obscuring its nameplate. Forward of the Dorothy Margaret is a punt, also aground, in which a fisherman wearing gloves is attending to gear. A net is draped over the punt's gunwale. Between the two vessels a passer-by pauses, in conversation with the fisherman in the punt.
