Hythe, Kent fishing vessels

The sterns of the Hythe auxiliary fishing boats Unity and Gratitude (regd FE46) are shown viewed from the port side, aground on shelving shingle with a low pier and steps in the background. Each boat has twin propellers. The image highlights the lute sterns of these boats, with bumkins protruding from holes cut into their curved transoms above the hull planking. Their rudders are shallow, as dictated by the angle of the clinker stern planking above the deadrise of the keel, and the trailing edges of the rudders are straight. The furthest of the two boats has both mainmast and stepped; the mainmast of the Unity is out of sight.
