Selsey crabber

The Selsey crabber Gwendolen of Littlehampton, regd. L149, is shown from the port bow quarter tied up at a quay in Littlehampton harbour, with the transom and mizzen mast of a smaller vessel, the Titlark, visible astern. The Gwendolen's foresail and mainsail are stowed, the luff of the latter being secured to the mast with hoops and parrel beads for the gaff jaws. The mast's four shrouds are lashed to the gunwale with lanyards. A transverse vertical timber just forward of the mast appears designed to prevent water from the planked foredeck entering the hull.
