Ichen ferry type yacht, off Hamble

An Itchen ferry yacht is seen from its starboard bow quarter at anchor on the Hamble river. Its mainsail cover and burgee suggest its use as a yacht when photographed, but the rig is no different from that of its working boat antecedents. Purpose-built bermudan-rigged yachts lie at anchor on either side of the Itchen ferry, with a variety of other vessels in the distance. The small yacht to starboard of the Itchen ferry has either just arrived at its mooring, mainsail still set, or is preparing to leave it.
