Selsey open fishing boat LI8 Baltic

Viewed abeam from the starboard side, a clinker-built boat of some 15ft LOD, named the Baltic in H.O. Hill's notebook and with the Littlehampton registration LI8 painted on its hull, is shown resting on shingle. It has a short bowsprit which extends through a ring fixed to the starboard side of the stemhead, which also serves to fasten the staysail tack. The bowsprit's inboard end is secured to a gunwale-mounted cross-member, as in negative P75638. The boat also has pintles for a rudder on its transom. Forward of the sternsheets are two thwarts for the operation of two pairs of oars pivoted in thole pins. One pair of oars rests across these thwarts.
