Old capstan on the beach
The main object in this photograph is a timber capstan at the top of Selsey beach, built to haul ashore fishing boats such as the Molly, regd LI6, and Baltic, regd L18, shown behind it. One 'arm' is in place on the capstan; a vacant square hole in its axle would accommodate another, but not apparently the long spar resting on the beach in the foreground, which appears to be of round section.
