Shoreham aux. lugger Kentish Maid laid up at Newhaven, 1942

The auxiliary Shoreham lugger Kentish Maid is seen stern-on, laid up on shore at Newhaven. The view shows the shallow transom bearing the name above a lute stern, in lettering which has decayed. The boat's auxiliary power is delivered to a propeller to the port side of the sternpost. Three mooring lines festooned with weed trail over the stern. The boat is heeled slightly to port, resting not on legs but on her relatively flat bilges. In the background a smaller fishing boat is aground on a mooring below the harbour wall on the left.
