Shoreham aux.fishing lugger SM387 at Newhaven, 1942

A Shoreham auxiliary fishing lugger regd SM387, laid up aground with water lapping at its stern at Newhaven, is photographed from a vantage point above its bow. This view shows a sheet of canvas, not apparently a working sail, hanging over the port gunwale; what may be the stump of a mainmast still stepped against the forward bulkhead; a hatch over a short foredeck; and two spars and two sweeps stowed on board. Partly visible behind the lugger are further fishing boats, apparently completely converted from sail to motor propulsion.
