Shoreham aux.fishing lugger SM387 at Newhaven, 1942
A Shoreham auxiliary fishing lugger regd SM387, laid up aground with water lapping at its stern at Newhaven, is photographed from behind and below its lute stern, whose characteristic clinker planking meets the top of the stern almost vertically. The view shows the curved stern quarters entailing that the top of the stern is a continuation of the gunwales. The rudder, which would be hung behind the three-blade propeller whose shaft runs through the sternpost, has been removed. To port of the boat is a wooden pier hung with drying nets.
