Selsey crabber LI49 Cuendolen at Littlehampton

This view of the Selsey crabber Cuendolen's stern while the boat is aground supported by cradles on either side of its keel in Littlehampton harbour confirms the unusual spelling of the boat's name, mis-represented in H. Oliver Hill's notebook as 'Gwendolen'. Also painted on the Cuendolen's transom to the right of the name is that of its owner, H. Burtenshaw, and its home port of Littlehampton. To the right of the Cuendolen, which appears ready to sail, is the stern of a motor launch bearing the name 'Water Lily'.
