Emsworth fishing vessels; sailing boat, Messrs. Forster & Co

A ca. 12ft sailing dinghy named Grampus at Emsworth, according to Negatives index P.70000-P.79999, is shown aground at the water's edge before a pile of sawn timber, with its gaff mainsail hoisted. The boat has a bowsprit and a gaff rig. Its transom is broad but shallow, and its canvas-covered deck is steeply cambered. It has a large centreboard case, not supported by a thwart. Of lightweight construction, this quarter-decked boat was apparently designed to be sailed for pleasure only.
